Um Chorus consists of 33 Tasmanian contemporary artists discussing their inspiration. The resulting soundtracks have been edited to include only the artists’ ums or other pause-for-thought noises amongst quiet space, in real time (as it was actually spoken). The tracks are heard on top of each other as a full-blown chorus, a simultaneous orchestral collection

of thought, of Tasmanian contemporary artists thinking about their inspiration.

The work consists of a square elevator button which lights up when pushed and begins the chorus. By its very nature it is full of sound to begin with (some artists only spoke for 30 seconds or so) and gradually diminishes (the longest interview was 4:09 minutes). If the button is pushed again before the chorus has ended, it returns to the beginning.
